Rural Development Services

A significant percentage of poor people live in rural areas (more than 70% of the world population), and depend on local and natural resources for their livelihoods.

Our work has included projects providing direct assistance to rural communities, some living in extremely fragile environments. In supporting rural development, our services have covered:

  • Regional and local development
  • Social inclusion
  • Natural resources, biodiversity and environmental management
  • Integration of local and indigenous population
  • Markets, including value chains
  • Governance – ensuring that public services such as agricultural extension operate to the benefit of those in need, at every level of government and society
  • Community empowerment and local self-organisation
  • Social, environmental and project impact analyses
  • ICT in rural areas for overcoming the digital divide
  • Design and implementation of touristic actions for rural development
